About

My name is Greg Ingersoll, and I have a brain. And it’s full of stuff.

I grew up in Wisconsin (Eau Claire and Tomah), and went to college at the University of Wisconsin – Madison where I studied Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and was a member of the UW Marching Band.

After college I moved to the Minneapolis, MN metro area and started working for Banner Engineering developing safety equipment for the manufacturing industry.

In 2002, I started graduate school at the University of Minnesota while continuing to work at Banner. I was only going to get a Master’s degree at first (which I completed in 2007), but after taking a course in Physical Optics, I decided that I would stay on and get a Ph.D. I am currently researching spectral beam combining in volume Bragg gratings.

In my free time from school, I work full-time at Logic where I am a Senior Electrical Engineer. I work with electrical designs and software designs. Lately, I have been working quite a lot with Texas Instruments OMAP media processors developing Linux device drivers and application software for video and imaging systems.

Another professional note: I am a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Minnesota.

When not working or researching, I enjoy kayaking and travel and photography and music among other things. This website and blog is developing into a place where I can share my professional, academic, and personal interests with all of you.
